WHO ARE WE?

The Maritime Pilots' Association of South Africa


The Association is a voluntary, apolitical, non-governmental, nonprofit organization with the following objectives:

1. To promote the professional and technical interests of South African pilots and pilotage through investigation, information and representation.

2. To promote and maintain proper standards of safe and professional performance of pilotage and associated matters of navigation and management in South African Ports.

3. To take measures necessary to enhance and protect the status of pilots.

4. To participate in Events, Conferences, Conventions or Seminars on the profession.

5. To collect and distribute information about the work of its members and about the latest technological innovations in piloting.

6. To maintain permanent collaboration with any International or Governmental Organizations in the maritime sector, and to provide specialist opinions if necessary.

Although this association has its own goals and objectives we do not act independently from Transnet National Port Authority.

We Are The Maritime Pilots Association Of South African

Our Background

The core group of the Maritime Pilots Association South Africa consist of members with career backgrounds in Merchant Naval Operations, Harbour Pilot Operations, Tug Master Operations and Military Naval Operations.

Our Approach

We believe that every Maritime Pilot has the potential to develop a fulfilling and rewarding career that can intern be passed on to the next generation . Our approach is centered around helping pilots cultivate competence , identify their values and goals, and create actionable steps towards achieving them. We are committed to providing a safe and non-judgmental space for all to explore their industry and work towards their desired outcomes.
